Tell us about yourself and your business
AIC Insurance Brokers is a locally based professional insurance brokerage and risk advisors which services clients on a national and international level.
With over 16 years in the insurance and finance industry, we have extensive experience in the Australian and overseas markets, with direct experience in the U.S. and Lloyd’s of London market.
Since inception, our strength has been our client focused service approach, delivered by professionals with a diversity of vocational experience. What was the journey that brought you to your current role?
After working many years in the finance industry within in various business development roles, I wanted to move into the insurance industry which I believe has much more growth and opportunities. After successfully landing a BDM role for a small brokerage I completed by Diploma in Insurance Broking and worked with senior brokers and management to learn all of the products. I was never afraid to work on a difficult client, product or claim which accelerated my career and ultimately launching into starting my own broking business.
What’s behind your success?
Strong relationships within the insurance industry and with clients, dedication, passion, experience and not afraid to give something a go.
What’s a mistake you’ve made that you’ll never make again?
Starting my business late in my career.
What’s the one secret about your field or industry you wish everyone knew?
It wouldn’t be a secret then if I told. LOL. But I love helping people so here it is. When dealing with potential new clients, always aim high and ask for a Letter of Appointment. Treat all clients as they are your friends, be honest, transparent, direct don’t be greedy and you will be surprised how many will sign the Letter of Appointment.
What are your predictions for the industry for the next few years?
I believe education and training will be a key focus with all brokers needingi to have a minimum Diploma in Insurance Broking. And rates will rise a little higher and remain for a number of years.
What’s your main goal for the year ahead?
Continue with the over servicing of my clients and employ new staff so I can concentrate on the rapid growth of our business.
What are the biggest problems you face when dealing with MGAs, underwriters or insurers?
When they work from home.
